With winter settling in, it's time to review your vinyl storage practices. Cold temperatures change how our products behave — and how you store them matters. A few simple adjustments now will keep your stock in top condition and ready for installation.
WHY WINTER STORAGE MATTERS
Vinyl floor coverings, including both LVT and sheet vinyl, respond to temperature changes.
When temperatures drop, PVC becomes less pliable and more rigid.
This is because vinyl is a thermoplastic, meaning it flexes and contracts based on the environment around it. Warmer conditions make it more workable; colder conditions make it stiffer. Understanding this behaviour is key to protecting your stock during the winter months and ensuring your vinyl is in perfect condition when you're ready to install it.

Storage requirement: Keep in boxes on pallets
Critical: No other pallets stacked on top
2 METRE WIDE VINYL SHEET
Upon arrival: Remove strapping, stand vertically
Why: Horizontal storage causes pressure marks
Long-term storage: Horizontal in racks is acceptable if rotated monthly
Safety note: Secure rolls to prevent accidents
3 AND 4 METRE WIDE SHEET VINYL
Upon arrival: Remove strapping, store in racking
Best practice: Rotate monthly to minimise pressure marks
LASTLY, DON'T FORGET TO ACCLIMATISE!
One of the most critical parts of installing any type of vinyl flooring in winter is to make sure to acclimatise the product first.
Minimum 48 hours on site
Minimum temperature: 15°C
